    Description

Offered for sale is a stunning antique medium blue transferware sauce tureen with ladle manufactured in Staffordshire, England during the early to mid 1800s.  The sauce tureen is in the India Vase pattern which displays birds perched next to an urn of overflowing flowers set against a naturalistic landscape.  The base of the tureen and the underside of the lid are both marked with the pattern name, and overall it stands about 6 3/8" tall to the tip of the finial and 7 5/8" in diameter across the handles while the ladle measures approximately 7 1/2" in length. I do not believe the ladle is original to this piece, but it goes well with the tureen and fits with the decor.
The overall condition of the sauce tureen is very good.  The lid is clean with no faults other than a few tiny flakes to the underside fitter rim and some minor crazing to the underside of the ladle slot. The ladle is also clean with no faults other than fine consistent crazing in the glaze. The base has a few faults to note. There is a small chip to the inner rim where the lid rests. There are two chips to the foot and one chip to the underside of the foot. There are also scattered areas of glaze loss on the body of the base.
The white earthenware is bright with some mild toning and the blue color is deep with nice contrast. The glaze is glossy with consistent crazing noted and the lid fits well. Please be sure to check out my other auctions for more great items!
